Douglas M. Slama
Dr. Douglas M. Slama, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Slama is a lifelong Salem resident who graduated from South Salem High School. He received a BS in Biology from Oregon State University, and completed his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1991, also at OSU.


He has been practicing small animal medicine and surgery in Salem since graduation. He joined the Animal Care Center Family in March of 2010.


Doug’s family includes his wife Leilani, and their children Tim and Ellie. Four-legged family members include a turtle named Kenny, and 2 Silken Windhounds named Makani K’eoe and Nanea. When not working, he enjoys running, swimming, golfing, camping, and traveling.

Douglas M. Slama
Dr. Amy Harbord, DVM
Veterinarian

Dr. Harbord graduated from Oregon State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2017 and practiced in Colorado and North Carolina before finding her way home to Oregon. She joined the Animal Care Center Family in June 2022. Dr. Harbord is passionate about all aspects of veterinary medicine but especially enjoys surgery, internal medicine, and achieving optimal health through preventative care. She enjoys getting to work with pets throughout all their life stages and has a special soft spot for fearful or anxious patients. When not working Dr. Harbord can be found traveling, adventuring outdoors or trail running with her herding dog mutt, Dash. She also is an avid equestrian and is continually trying to give her cat Mia the life of her dreams.

Douglas M. Slama
Dr. Jess Rigling, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Jess Rigling earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Oregon State University and has been practicing for the past 7 years. She specializes in geriatric care, soft tissue surgery, cytology, and preventative care. She is also certified in veterinary acupuncture and uses it to treat a variety of conditions including neurological dysfunction, pain, and more. Dr. Rigling takes pride in client communication, she understands the importance that owners are knowledgeable on any issues so they can make informed decisions about the plan for their pet’s care. Outside of her veterinary work, she enjoys traveling, hiking, rafting, photography, and gardening. A fun fact about Dr. Jess Rigling: She began relief work to travel more, in 2023 she traveled to 4 international countries and 13 states. Her beloved pets include a golden retriever, Marco, and an orange tabby manx, Watson.

Kylie Lukens
Maycie L., CVT

Certified Veterinary Technician

Maycie started her career in the veterinary field when she was 16 years old through a high school internship. She always knew she wanted to work with animals. She became a licensed veterinary technician in California in 2018 and has since worked in multiple general practices, ER/Specialty Hospitals, and even with a traveling orthopedic surgeon. Her favorite patients to work with are little chihuahuas and spicy old lady kitties. Maycie is married and lives with 2 rescue pups from Mexico, Carson and Anza, along with her a one-eyed kitty, Toulouse. She moved to Oregon in 2022 and has been enjoying exploring all the activities Oregon has to offer. In her free time, Maycie loves to spend time outdoors hiking or driving around in her Jeep, listening to loud music, and loves cycling.

Maggie G., Technician
Technician

Maggie is an Oregonian born and raised. She joined the Animal Care Center Family in June 2021 and has actively worked in veterinary medicine since 2016. She has a Doberman named Jax and 2 cats named Chief and Maverick. Her hobbies outside of work include crafting, photography, farm management, showing cattle and spending too much money on her four-legged kids at home.

Sofiya Shubina
Sofiya S., Technician
Technician

Sofiya was born in Russia, but raised in Salem, Oregon. She is the oldest of seven kids. She joined the Animal Care Center Family in March of 2019.


Sofiya has several four-legged kids, a Husky named Dak, 2 Pit Bulls named Nala & Mister, a German Shepherd named Chevy and four cats named Fei, Bailey, Dusty and Cemechka. Her hobbies outside of work include hiking, camping, fishing, and rescuing animals of all shapes and sizes.

Kasey Q., Technician

Technician

Kasey joined the Animal Care Center Family in September 2021 and has worked in veterinary medicine on and off since 2005. New to Oregon, she is originally from Northern California and has lived in Tennessee and Washington. Kasey lives at home with her teenage son, senior dog Poppy, 2 cats Willow and Shadow, and their guinea pig Possum. Her hobbies outside of work include hiking, camping, summer river days, and spending time with friends and family.

Brooke joined the Animal Care Center Family in June 2022. She is an Oregonian born and raised and has actively worked in veterinary medicine since 2017. Brooke has a collection of four-legged kids consisting of 2 Pit bulls named Chandler and Agatha, a Malamute named Bjorn, a Tree Walker Coonhound named Bebe, a Bearded Dragon named Zazu and a Sulcata Tortoise named Leroy. Her hobbies outside of work include any adventures outdoors, insect collecting, rockhounding and caring for her indoor jungle of house plants.

Laura joined the Animal Care Center Family in November of 2022. Originally from Port Angeles, Washington- she has called Oregon home for 7 years and counting. Laura has 2 dogs a Corgi/Mini Aussie named Hemi and Mini Aussie named Crash. Her hobbies outside of work include cooking, baking, puzzles, and hiking.

Kylie is an Oregonian born and raised and has worked in various aspects of veterinary medicine since 2008. She joined the Animal Care Center Family in April 2019. Kylie has 2 cats named Rocket and Squish. Her hobbies outside of work include exploring nature with her son Maverick, cooking, rockhounding, jump roping and petting all the dogs.
